Holding The Man comes to Melbourne

It hasn't been officially announced yet, but while wearing my MCV hat this week, I was given advance notice that Griffin Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Holding the Man will be presented by the MTC in Melbourne next year. Cue wild cries of joy and celebration.

We now return you to our regular schedule.

I'm very much looking forward to it. I'm amazed, uplifted and sometimes overawed by stories of such young love in the face of so many adversities.

I was in his circle of friends. I missed out being in 'Holding the Man' but a few friends were (unflattering) depicted. I wish the bits and pieces of Tim's other writing could be collected together. There was a lovely script he was working on that became a radio play that I would love to see turn up.

I remember, as a teenager, stealing money from my mum's purse to buy this book, and then keeping it hidden in my bedroom. It was my guide during formative years!

Is it still in print?

Not sure, Bardassa - try Hares & Hyenas in Fitzroy; they'd know.

I saw the play at the Stables in Darlinghurst last December. I cried, I laughed but most of all it took me back twenty years to when I worked at that clinic in Surry Hills. As a 20 year old, I saw more fear in the faces of people (mostly gay men) waiting to receive their antibody results than I ever want to see again.

I knew and know of many who died but it those people that I know nothing about that leaves me wondering whether they are living well or maybe dead.

A friend has just come back from Melbourne with a copy of MCV. I am looking forward to reading it as I have never read it.
